Shaping the future of EU food governance: progress from the PLAN’EAT Policy Lab
Designing the european food policy council
At the heart of this work is the design of the future European Food Policy Council (EFPC)—a key initiative aimed at strengthening EU food governance. The ongoing efforts by EPHA and TMG mark an important step forward in making food policy at EU level more:
-
Participatory, by meaningfully involving a wide range of stakeholders
-
Inclusive, with particular attention to vulnerable consumer groups
-
Grounded in local realities, ensuring that policies reflect on-the-ground experiences across Europe
By bringing together diverse voices, the Policy Lab is helping to bridge the gap between EU-level decision-making and the needs of citizens, communities, and local food actors.
From Vision to Concrete Action
As the Policy Lab continues to refine a shared vision of what an effective and feasible EFPC could look like, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: PLAN’EAT’s macro-level actions are turning into concrete, actionable outcomes.
A key next step will be the publication of a roadmap in March 2026, which will serve as a major milestone for the project. This roadmap will guide future efforts to institutionalise participatory governance in EU food policy, providing a clear direction for long-term impact.
